CROW AND GAZELLE: A COSMIC ENCOUNTER

“Crow and Gazelle don’t just play music—they create moments, shared experiences that remind us of our own humanity. In a world that often feels disconnected and chaotic, their music is a tether, grounding us, reminding us that we are not alone…” Angela Masters, Black Moon media - FULL PERFORMANCE REVIEW HERE

”I hurry to recommend Crow & Gazelle. The union (both musical and personal) of red-dirt legend Mike McClure and the multi-talented Chrislyn Lawrence is music that is made for all the right reasons and full of redemption and promise. To my ears, they are the best new folk/americana duo working in music today.” - Greg Johnson, The Blue Door, OKC

“ Few artists elicit such a powerful emotional response from a live audience. From their lyrics to their stage presence and delivery, they take you on a deep emotional journey examining the human condition, shining light on dark places within the human heart, and always leave you with a sense of hope and understanding. Bottom line… Crow & Gazelle spread radical love. “
- Jenerayte promotions and radio

"To see Crow and Gazelle perform is to see, hear, and feel true love unfold before your eyes, through song, for a show that leaves all in attendance spellbound and breathless.”
-Dallas Burrow, The Red Bird Listening Room

The duo first met in the early 2000s… she was his booking agent… they reconnected in 2018… and here we are.

Crow and Gazelle might be a new name to you, in theory, but if you’re familiar with the folk, Americana and Red Dirt music scenes in Oklahoma and Texas, its members are likely not. CG is one part Mike McClure, the singer, songwriter, artist and producer who’s been making music in the region for nearly three decades. It’s also one part Chrislyn Lawrence, who is also a creative director, videographer, community organizer, poet, and yoga teacher. The duo is a hymnodic, moving collaboration borne out of the connection between two people healing, loving, and growing together. Their songs—built around their entangled close harmonies and sparse, reverent acoustic instrumentation—are wrought out of the love they have come to find for themselves and for each other. Their debut outing, As Above Now So Below, which was released on April 26, 2024, is an album centered on acceptance and growth in the face of pain… and on embracing the sacred nature within each and every one of us.

In each song on their debut album, and throughout their live shows, crow and gazelle reach deep inside themselves, and the audience, to connect and feel a way through complex emotions. Alongside themes of grief and addiction, anxiety and spiritual reckonings, there are themes of hope and light throughout. Because we are not one thing - sometimes we are all things, all at once.

Through its joyful, reflective, and sometimes-sorrowful thirteen songs, As Above Now So Below walks alongside the listener… through the depths of darkness, but ever holding space to see that through it is the only way to the other side. As from “Blackbird”, Crow and Gazelle remind us, “I will walk beside you, you don’t have to be alone.” This harrowingly beautiful and raw debut outing is at its heart the narration of a divine love story—not only the one between two people, but between our hearts and our minds, our pasts and our futures, our knowns and our unknowns. It’s an offering to the shared possibility of love that vibrates through each and every one of us.

"Our coming together has created a whole new path for us both. And our live shows just keep getting better and more powerful. It’s more than just two people in a band, and it’s so much deeper than just us. We gather around one microphone, while our spirits and voices envelop each other, and the audience—it's the very essence of interconnected harmony. I think our music and our shows are a reflection of the human potential - to allow our full range of emotions, flowing from grief to joy, held by another’s understanding. It's part of some bigger cosmic contract. So we're doing everything we can to honor it."

The debut Crow and Gazelle album was recorded at Steve Ripley’s Farm and Studio in Oklahoma.
Produced by C&G and engineered by Jared Tyler, it was mixed by Dylan Alldredge in Nashville, Mastered by True East Nashville.
“As Above Now So Below” was released in April 2024, with the help of Brooklyn Basement Records.

”At a time when trouble and trauma are pulling at the fabric of society and leaving so many people with uncertainty in their wake, Crow and Gazelle provide a soothing salve via a sense of optimism and assurance. The duo, who initially met 20 years ago, parted ways, and then reconnected in 2018, create a sound entirely of their own making… - The Alternate Root”
